Talk: Balancing Lakes and Wetlands in a water-wise city
Have you ever wondered why Milton Keynes experiences very little residential flooding compared to other parts of the UK, despite the prevalence of waterways across the city? With more than 300 ponds, large lakes, two rivers and a canal, there is plenty of water to be found within the city boundaries! At this insightful talk, you will find out about the intricate system of wetlands, balancing lakes and urban drainage systems that help protect MK. There will also be an opportunity to discover some of the problems that these bodies of water can bring and how The Parks Trust surveys and manages them.
The talk will take place at Linford Lakes Nature Reserve. Seating and a small selection of hot and cold drinks will be provided. There are accessible toilet facilities at this site. The route to the building from the carpark is fully accessible.
Please note this talk will be delivered using visual aids on a projector screen. Talk notes can be provided and a hearing loop is available on request.
Due to the time of year, please expect that it will be dark when exiting the building - there is limited lighting outside at this site.
We would love to make these sessions enjoyable for all, so please do get in touch if you have any accessibility requirements on outdoorlearning@theparkstrust.com
