£5.00 Workshop: What lies beneath? Soil Exploration Workshop: What lies beneath? Soil Exploration Join us to find out about the properties of soil and the impact this has on what can grow within it.

Find out what lies beneath your feet. In this workshop, we will look at some properties of soil in our parks to better understand how simple characteristics can determine the plants we see on the surface. We will consider how the land supports the environment through food production, carbon storage, and ecosystems. We will do this by taking samples of soil from around the park and analysisng what we can see and what we can find out from this.

This will be a practical workshop led with guidance from The Parks Trust's Environmental Sustainability Manager.

£5.00 Close up view of a caddisfly perched on a blade of grass Workshop: What lies beneath? Freshwater Exploration What lies beneath Milton Keynes? Discover the wonderful world of freshwater creatures with practical demonstrations by our team.

The world beneath the surface is fascinating, intriguing and complex. If you've ever wanted to take a peak into the elusive lives of British freshwater creatures, join us for this practical adults-only workshop in the Ouse Valley (Flodoplain Forest Nature Reserve) on Wednesday 8th May.

Our team will speak about the many different taxa using our waterways and how The Parks Trust are helping to conserve the more threatened species. We will also demonstrate effective sampling techniques which we use to measure the health of water systems and give you the chance to get up close and personal with some freshwater invertebrates.

Please note that this session begins with a moderately-paced walk on a paved footpath down to the sampling site - this will take approximately 10 minutes. Once at the sampling site, there will be a mixture of paved footpath and grassy patches. Participants should expect to be sitting/kneeling on the ground for the activities but adjustments can be made for anyone with access needs. There will then be a return walk to the car park at the end of the session, this involves a moderate incline. There are occasional benches at this site, but no toilet facilities. A hearing loop is available on request. Please contact us on outdoorlearning@theparkstrust.com for any further accessibility information or support.
