FREE Walking Festival: Introduction to Nordic Walking Walking Festival: Introduction to Nordic Walking Discover the benefits of being active outdoors with this Nordic Walking Taster Walk on Sunday 12th May.

Join this introduction walk to Nordic Walking on Sunday 12th May at 10am. Discover the benefits of being active outdoors without putting pressure on your body that comes after vigorous activities like running in this hour-long guided walk.

All necessary equipment will be provided for the walk, but please be considerate of weather conditions and wear appropriate footwear and clothing. Free booking is required as spaces are very limited.

FREE Walking Festival; Introduction to Forest Bathing Walking Festival; Introduction to Forest Bathing An introductiojn to Forest Bathing at Shenley Wood

Get in touch with the natural world as part of the Walking Festival! This relaxing walk through the ancient woodland offers an opportunity to slow down from our busy lives and reconnect with the natural world that surrounds us. 

We will be following Forest Bathing techniques developed in Japan in the 1980’s that have been found to lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and improve memory and concentration. Some findings even show it can help us stay healthy - nature is a powerful healer! 

Book to secure your place and experience this immersive afternoon on Thursday 9th May at Shenley Wood.

Please note this session is suitable for adults and older children.

Shenley Wood is a mixture of hard paths and muddy trails and please expect to be off the paths at time so wear suitable clothing and footwear.

There are no toilets at this site. With the nearest toilets being at Westcroft shopping centre. Please get in touch on outdoorlearning@theparkstrust.com if you require any accessibility support or to request a hearing loop.

FREE Walking Festival: A geological walk through Great Linford Walking Festival: A geological walk through Great Linford Discover the geology of Great Linford Manor and Stonepit

Are you interested in fossils and geology? Then this walk as part of the Walking Festival will be the one for you.

Our walk leader will take you on a journey back to the Jurassic period and discover the history beneath our feet in Milton Keynes. This walk is open to all ages, but will not be suitable for younger children due to its length and the in depth subject matter. 

Meeting at the Memorial Hall in Great Linford Manor, this event will be around a 2-mile walk, with lots of talking points along the way, and should last up to 2 hours. 

There are no toilets available at this location, and the walk will include some off-path sections. Please ensure you dress appropriately for the conditions and wear footwear you're comfortable walking in.

Join Duncan Minshull at 2pm on May 12th for an enlightening stroll around Campbell Park and beyond, weaving in fascinating stories from his latest collection, Globetrotting: Writers Walk The World.

Hear from those who have walked parts of the seven continents, from Charles Darwin, DH Lawrence, and Katharine Mansfield to William Boyd, Michèle Roberts and Helen Garner. Duncan will transport you to Paris and to Rome, to the frozen wastes of Antarctica, to the pilgrim paths of Japan; capturing the joys and hardships of foot travel, and pose the question of why we choose to set off in the first place. 

Duncan Minshull is a former BBC producer, anthologist, and writer. His collections include Globetrotting, Beneath My Feet: Writers on Walking and Sauntering: Writers Walk Europe.

The walk begins and ends at The Parks Trust in Campbell Park, and will take approximately 90 minutes, covering around 3 miles. Duncan will also be signing copies of his books after the walk.

Join Nicky Kenny on Saturday May 11th as part of the Walking Festival, for a short, circular and family-friendly walk along part of the Pilgrims’ Trail route.

Starting at and returning to Milton Keynes Discovery Centre, where the fully restored medieval chapel of St Mary stands and taking in the famous Concrete Cows and Bancroft Roman Villa.

Your walk leader will talk about the plants birds and animals to be found along the walk, which will run alongside part of the River Great Ouse and the Grand Union Canal. Drinks and cakes will be available to purchase from the cafe.
